You need simple lateral thinking to solve this puzzle. Lateral thinking puzzles are strange situations in which you are given a little information and then have to find the explanation. Lateral thinking puzzles are often as such in which you are given a seemingly unusual set of circumstances and you have to try and figure out what happened or what’s going on. Think of a lateral thinking puzzle as a riddle that requires you to become a detective to fill in the missing parts of a very unusual, short story. In general, lateral thinking puzzles can have multiple solutions since by their nature they are open ended. However, there is often one “best” solution for each puzzle. It’s a very good puzzle. It may require a lot of time to figure it out, but requires simple science knowledge. Solve: The Man who Hanged Himself [Lateral Puzzle] There is a large wooden barn which is completely empty except for a dead man hanging from the middle of the central rafter. The rope around his neck is ten feet long and his feet are three feet off the ground. The nearest wall is 20 feet away from the man. It is not possible to climb up the walls or along the rafters. This is probably the best known and most celebrated of all lateral thinking puzzles. It is a true classic. Although there are many possible solutions which fit the initial conditions, only the canonical answer is truly satisfying. Solve: The Man in the Elevator [Lateral Puzzle] A man lives on the 20th floor of a building. Every morning he takes the elevator down to the lobby and leaves the building. Upon his return, however, he travels halfway up in the lift and walks up the stairs to reach his apartment. He hates walking so why does he do it?
