Kelvin To Celsius Formula With Solved Examples

Kelvin-to-Celsius Formula with solved examples

Kelvin and Celsius scales are the most frequently used temperature assessing scales in thermometer business. The size of 1 degree on Kelvin scale is similar to the size of 1 degree on Celsius scale that is, the difference or alteration in temperature is similar on both the balances. The Kelvin and Celsius Relation on the scale is articulated as

0o Celsius = 273.15 Kelvin

To transform Celsius into Kelvin, this relation can be used:

Celsius = Kelvin – 273.15

Kelvin to Celsius formula is made use of to change the temperature given in Kelvin to degree Celsius.

Solved Problems using Kelvin to Celsius Formula

Problem 1: Convert the following into Celsius.
(a) 55 K
(b) 250 K
(c) 573 K

Answer:

Here, by using the conversion formula
(a) 55 K = 55 – 273 = – 218oC
(b) 250 K = 250 – 273 = -23oC
(c) 573 K = 573 – 273 = 300oC

Problem 2: The boiling point of hydrogen is 20.28 K and its melting point is 14.01 K. Compute its temperature in Celsius.

Answer:

Known :

Melting point of hydrogen is 14.01 K
Boiling point of hydrogen = 20.28 K

Henceforth, by using the conversion formula, in Celsius,

Hydrogen’s melting point is 14.01 K = 14.01 – 273.15 = -259.14 0oC
Hydrogen’s boiling point is 20.28 K = 20.28 – 273.15 = -252.87 0oC
